TOYOTA SOLARA |
This has necessitated many many hours trolling autotrader.com, carmax.com, usedcars.com, swapalease.com and bestcarpurchase.com, followed by more hours talking to Shawn, Geremy, and Akbar.
I have been variously drawn to the Mitsubishi Eclipse, the Toyota Solara, the Nissan Altima, and the Honda Accord. I have learned about leasing vs. buying. I have considered sunroofs, leather, Bose speakers, and highway vs. city miles. I have been saddened to discover that unless you buy a sports car, it's practically impossible these days to find a manual transmission (my beloved Celica's a 5-speed).

Hi Heather!
ReplyDeleteI love my Mini Cooper! I have a convertible - it's my second one - it makes any driving FUN - and other Mini drivers wave to you!
Dear Heather, my daily ride is also black; enjoy. Only a tad smaller than your smallest wheels wish but a good deal less expensive.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Naturally all us nosy Internet acquaintances long to know all about your "psychic upheaval" and hope it portents only good
Thanks for the encouragement, folks--talking to car loan folks today...and thanks for asking, Owen, not to worry, more to come re the psychic upheaval which, interestingly (in light of the car purchase) is ALL about my relationship to money, overwork, under-earning, and therefore of course in the end about my relationship to God...oy. Every time I start to think I might actually have some faith, I'm given to see I have barely, if even, begun! This is GOOD news, however...but painful...
ReplyDeleteWell, I think all those cars are grand (or are they all pics of the same car?) and I KNOW Jesus would enjoy driving anywhere with you, but I'm much more interested in the psychic upheaval, the likes of which you've never quite known!
ReplyDeleteOh, now I see the other comments - Owen's interested, too. I look forward to hearing your thoughts.
ReplyDeleteHeather -- I hesitated to ask about the upheaval, but I assure you it wasn't out of lack of concern!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the few minutes of Diary of a Country Priest, which I shall have to check out very soon!
Congratulations on your car choice, Heather. As I read your commentary, I was thinking about the very scene from "Diary"...and then you, too, made the connection! I hope you can truly say "IT'S ALL GOOD" about your "psychic upheaval" (loved that NPR piece. Leaving for six months in Spain in a couple of hours...¡Hasta la vista y un fuerte abrazo!
ReplyDeleteForget about the psychic upheaval, let's hear more about the car.
ReplyDeleteGo for the car you like and will feel safe in. Your birthday is coming up and, yes, perhaps Jesus wouldn't mind a zippy car.
ReplyDeleteCheck out the blue book( think it's still around.) Car ratings. Haven't driven in years.
My 1997 Toyota Corolla died last year with 367K miles on the odometer. I was really hoping for half a million. I loved that car, and even after 6 or 7 miles, it still makes me sad when I see one like it.
ReplyDeleteWe bought a '08 Nissan Versa, which I'm thankful for, and which gets me the 40 miles to work everyday, but I don't think I'll ever love it.
AMDG, Janet
