THE ONGOING MOMENT

JULY AND AUGUST ARE CREPE MYRTLE TIME
IN LA!

"The most wonderful thing about life seems to be that we hardly tap our potential for self-destruction. We may desire it, it may be what we dream of, be we are dissuaded by a beam of light, a change in the wind."

--John Cheever, 1958 [quoted in Geoff Dyer's The Ongoing Moment]

  1. So beautiful! the photos and the Cheever quote. The form of the crepe myrtle is so similar to lilac.

    1. Yes, the color and cone-shape are reminiscent of lilac--cognitive dissonance for a native New Englander, though, as of course the lilac smell is missing, and while we associate lilacs with May, the crepe myrtle blooms in the ripe heat of late summer!
