NO ROOM AT THE INN

Echo Park Methodist Church, 1226 N. Alvarado St.

9/7/2013 2:38:30 a.m. EPSA Officer-(Scanned Checkpoint) Location Patrol
REPORTED: LOCATION: Reservoir Entry/exit door RESPONSE: FOUND A MALE ON A WHEELCHAIR TRYING TO SPEND THE NIGHT OUTSIDE THE CHURCH. HE WAS AROUND 60-65 YEARS OLD. I TOLD HIM THAT HE NEEDED TO LEAVE THE AREA, NO ONE IS ALLOWED TO BE ASLEEP OVERNIGHT NIGHT [sic] AT THE CHURCH. 26076568

  1. Wow. This makes me miss my old church. The occasional homeless individual attended Mass. They greeted people in the lobby. The church had an agreement with the city police, and they would allow them to sleep under the church's car port every night provided they weren't loud. Our priest would let some who we knew well use his shower. The church had this amazing commercial kitchen and once a week served a 3 course sit down meal, with table cloths and silverware, to roughly 100 homeless and hungry. If people aren't safe at a church, then where are they safe?
