JANET M. KING: OCTOBER 11, 1927-SEPTEMBER 25, 2012

age 20

Her patience at the airfield, in this world of machines and offices that is beyond her, waiting without a word, as old women have for millennia all over the world, waiting for the world to pass. And then very small, a bit broken, on the immense ground, toward the howling monsters, holding her well-combed hair with one hand…

Maman. What was her silence saying. What was this mute and smiling mouth screaming. We will be resurrected.

--Camus, Notebooks, 1951-1959

  6. In paradisum deducant te Angeli:
in tuo adventu suscipiant te Martyres,
et perducant te in civitatem sanctam Ierusalem.
    Chorus Angelorum te suscipiat,
et cum Lazaro quondam paupere æternam habeas requiem.

Our Lady, comfort of the sorrowing, pray for Janet, for Heather, and her family. In Christ's name we pray. Amen.

  15. Many things about life and death remain a mystery but as Christians we are assured that the promise of Christ, evidenced by His resurrection, will be fulfilled and Janet King is with her Lord. Take comfort in that knowledge. Mourn your mother and continue your important work. God bless you and her.

  18. May the peace of God, which passes all understanding, guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. I mourn and rejoice with you~

(when I came upon Owen's closing to his comment--"Brotherly love"-- I read it as "Butterfly love," which I thought might also be a beautiful expression in a time like this)

  26. Dear Heather---Peace, love and prayers to you and your family. And this fragment from a poem by my beloved George Santayana, who died in Rome sixty years ago today...

"I give back to the earth what the earth gave,
All to the furrow, nothing to the grave.
    The candle's out, the spirit's vigil spent;
Sight may not follow where the vision went."

  40. You are in my prayers Heather. My mother just left Minnesota to head to Florida after living with us for two, wonderful months. The pain of seeing her go is softened by thoughts of our time spent together and the hope that we will see each other again soon. As she left, my thoughts turned to wondering just how deep the pain will be when she does leave this world. Oh Heather, I am so sorry about your loss.
    Prayers and love,
    Ellen from Minnesota
